As Gate 1 Travel also actively markets in Australia, there will be a fair number of folks from Down Under on every cruise. This can make the onboard atmosphere more fun as some of them are younger than the traditional 55+ river cruise demographic and they tend to stay up later at night. The stateroom was perfect, lots of storage space. The Lady that took care of our room, Irena was the sweetest lady. The food was very good, the presentation was amazing.I look forward to take another river cruise on the Monarch Queen. Bart was very professional, accommodating and willing to help everyone.
Thanksgiving & Christmas River Cruises
The meals were delicious, beautifully presented and choices were great. The Maitre'd, Marius Miren, could always be found checking to make sure each of us enjoyed our meals. The breakfast buffet provided a variety of delicious choices to start our day. Every member of the wait staff was pleasant and attentive to details. They ,too, worked hard to make meal time a nice experience. This trip has convinced us to travel abroad more and to travel with Gate 1.Thank you for providing us with the opportunity to make such great memories. We have gone on many many ocean cruises, but this was our first river cruise and thanks to the ship staff and all the port guides, we will plan more river cruises.

I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for Krisztina and the unforgettable trip from Munich to Budapest aboard the Monarch Queen rivers cruise. It was an incredible experience, and I can't thank her enough for being our tour director and guide throughout this journey. Her knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication truly made this trip exceptional. Her storytelling and insights about the places we visited brought history and culture to life, making each destination even more meaningful. Her friendly demeanor and approachability made us feel like a close-knit group, forging lasting connections with fellow travelers.

We are happy with the Cruise Director and Activity host. Very satisfied with Gate 1 for this trip.Planning for another trip next year, Hope you could help us next time again. Enjoyed the Christmas markets, loved Regensburg! Had missed seeing the Rezidence in Wurzburg last time we were there, so really wanted to see the inside and was not disappointed.
Tour Operator
We had never been on a river cruise before, and we thought it would be an extra special way to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We could not be more pleased and honestly, cannot wait to take another river cruise or land tour with Gate 1! We felt so pampered and well-taken care of the entire time. It was a luxurious, first-class experience but one without pretentiousness. It felt very comfortable and was a family-type of atmosphere but with class.

With such a large number of vessels, it is very well positioned to deal with low and high water levels, which can sometimes cause cruise disruptions in Europe when ships are unable to sail. In this instance, Viking can move passengers from ship to ship to minimize the impact of these issues. There is only one dining room and you won't find a smaller alternative restaurant serving specialty fare, plus there is no light lunch option served in the lounge. If you're a cruiser who likes to switch things up at mealtimes, Gate 1 Travel is not a good fit. There is no place like Europe for the holiday season, and no better way to experience long held traditions of yuletide than on a Gate 1 River Cruise to the continent’s festive Christmas Markets.
This favorite itinerary takes full advantage of the engineering triumph, spanning the entire continent in 16 days. We break down the journey section by section for you here. My family and I returned from a Danube Fiver cruise on the Monarch Queen August 25th to September 1.
Old Town squares come alive with local traditions that conjure Christmases past. Each year, cities in Germany and Austria offer a feast for the senses. Aromas of cinnamon, gingerbread, baked apples and roasting chestnuts waft through the air. Gaily decorated stalls brim with handmade ornaments, toys, and endless ideas for holiday gift-giving. Artisans are often on hand to demonstrate their crafts, carolers roam about the snowy squares, and stalls are decorated with the finest finery. It’s hard to find a more perfect place to ring in the holiday season than in Central Europe.
Curl up with a book or surf the internet in our generously sized library. When it comes to fleet size, Viking River Cruises stands head and shoulders above Gate 1 Travel (and every other line). It is the world's largest river cruise operator with a fleet of 70 ships, the majority of which make up its fleet of 190-passenger European Longships. It also has ships in Egypt and Asia and is launching its first ship on the Mississippi in 2023. Viking sails on the Danube, Rhine, Main, Rhone, Saone, Seine, Elbe, Douro, Nile, Mekong, and the waterways of Holland. Additionally, with its fleet of ocean ships it also offers a combined river and ocean vacation that cover the Rhine and Norwegian fjords.

Fares cover red and white wine, beer and soda with dinner. Aside from water, which is freely available at every meal, any drinks ordered during lunch are at extra cost. That said, there is complimentary sparkling wine at breakfast -- a nice luxury touch for anyone who wants to make a mimosa. There are free 24-hour self-service tea and coffee stations in the main lounge and smaller lounge.
His assistant, Joko, was the happiest person I saw every day. Same as Dino, attentive and always thinking ahead for my group. The housekeeping staff person, Desy, also made our trip more enjoyable. It's people like these that puts the overall experience in the A+++ category for me. I'll remember them all as we travel with Gate 1 again. The total tour cost includes the tour price (regular or promotional) and the compulsory local payment.
